Command & Conquer Red Alert 2

    Post  Toasted-Strategist on Wed Mar 24, 2010 1:19 pm

So here i am with my first review, of a pretty old game and probably one of my most favorite games EVAR. Red Alert 2 is an rts (real time strategy) where you take the role of the commander of an army.

Gameplay: Just like any other rts; Click on a unit and designate an area for it to go to or attack, click on a building to either build a spawn a new unit/structure. It's all pretty much the same.

Graphics: very very pixelated but its detailed enough for you to vaguely see your units face. They are pretty cool sprites and get they get the job done.

Sound: Pretty good here. Each Unit have their own little comments to say every time you click on them, in a way it gives all the units a personality which makes it more amusing. Now what i don't get is the cheesy acting in each cut scene. They are quite amusing though because of the cheesyness.

The music choice here is pretty good in my opinion, its a mixture of fusion jazz and rock-ish orchestral military marches. It gives you a sense of authority.

Uniqueness/variety: What makes this game truly addictive and fun is the vast range of building and units. Not only does each faction (Soviet Union and Allied Forces) have there own units - not just cheap copies of each other - but they also have sub factions which specialize in extra units which you only get if you play as that sub. For example if i play as Allied forces France, i get the usual allied units PLUS the grand cannon which is an exclusive defense structure to France. Another example is if i play as the Allied Force Britain then i get access to the exclusive british sniper units.

Another awesome thing is that if you play as the soviet union and spawn Yuri (mind control guy) then you can LITERALLY take control of any unit, even civilians, bulldozers, squids and any other weird units you come across.

Overall: This is a very biased review, i honestly love this game and recommend it to anyone who can still get their hands on this old game. It has its flaws but has a lot of reply value. You will be craving for more.

9.98 out of 10, lost 0.02 cuz this review didnt even make sense XD
